A franceinfo report describes a rise in fake rental adverts as the university year begins. A student in Toulouse was asked for a 370 euro deposit and checked the address first. In another case, documents sent to a supposed landlord were used to obtain cards and loans totalling 10,000 euros.
What this means for you
Before any payment, verify the flat, a draft tenancy contract and the identity of the person offering it. Personal and financial documents should only be sent once the counterparty is confirmed.
