The minister announced state supervision of the entire estate agency sector. Plans include a professional register, statutory conduct rules and a complaints desk. Since August more than 900 people filed complaints with Vereniging Eigen Huis, according to the report.

Buyers should establish before signing who instructs and pays the agent and how bids are recorded. Registration alone says nothing about professional qualification.
