Austria's economic crimes prosecutor has charged a Viennese property entrepreneur and an employee with tax evasion. In a 2015 deal on five residential properties a price of 7.27 million euros was declared, while 25 million had allegedly been agreed earlier. The stated shortfall is 620,000 euros; the presumption of innocence applies.
What this means for you
Buyers should check that the price stated in the contract matches the actual agreement, because transfer tax is calculated from it. Discrepancies can lead to back taxes and criminal proceedings.
