Vienna: registration required for short-term rentals from 2027

From 2027, Vienna will require registration for renting flats to tourists. Short-term letting via platforms such as Airbnb must be reported to the authority in advance. Converting flats into accommodation establishments will also be restricted; in 2025 there were 305 related applications.

Anyone buying or renting a Vienna flat for tourist use should check the coming registration duty and the zoning status before signing. House rules and the condominium agreement may also bar commercial use.
